Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes). Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in buttermilk and vanilla on low speed. Gradually add the dry ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. For frosting, beat powdered sugar and peanut butter until smooth. Add milk gradually for desired consistency.
  7. Frost cooled cake layers generously with peanut butter frosting.
