Quick to prepare and easily customizable, fried cabbage serves as an impressive side or a satisfying main dish that will have everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium green cabbage (about 2 lbs)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices bacon (optional), chopped

Instructions

  1. Remove outer leaves from the cabbage, cut in half, remove the core, and slice thinly. Chop the onion and mince the garlic.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil until shimmering.
  3. Sauté chopped onion until translucent (about 3 minutes). If using bacon, add it now until crispy.
  4. Add sliced cabbage and stir to coat with oil. Cook for 5–7 minutes until tender yet slightly crunchy.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, then add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  6. Serve hot as a delicious side or enjoy on its own.
