  • 8 oz (225g) spaghetti
  • 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
  • 1 can (28 oz) whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 1 stalk celery, finely diced
  • 1 cup (240ml) low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients by chopping the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent. Stir in minced garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef; cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. Mix in grated carrots and diced celery; sauté for two minutes before adding crushed canned tomatoes.
  5. Pour in beef broth along with oregano and basil; bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low for about 30 minutes.
  6. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and combine gently with the sauce just before serving.
