Ingredients

For the Beef and Bean Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef use lean ground beef for less grease
  • 1 can canned baked beans 15 oz, any variety
  • 1 cup onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp ketchup for sweetness and tang
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce adds depth of flavor
  • 1 tsp mustard yellow or Dijon
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika for a smoky flavor
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/2 tsp salt adjust to taste
For Topping
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional, for a cheesy topping

Method

Prepare the Beef Mixture
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes. This step is crucial for developing flavor.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent. This enhances the overall flavor of the dish.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix well and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.
Combine with Baked Beans
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures even cooking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the beef mixture with the canned baked beans. Stir until well combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Bake the Dish
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. This helps to meld the flavors together.
  2. Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top (if using). Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve
  1. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This allows the dish to set slightly.
  2. Scoop into bowls and enjoy your hearty baked beans with ground beef!
