Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend for optimal flavor and juiciness
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce adds depth of flavor
  • 1 tsp olive oil for sautéing
For Assembly
  • 4 hoagie rolls sub rolls preferably soft and fresh
  • 8 oz provolone cheese sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter for toasting the rolls

Method

Prepare the Beef Mixture
  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they are softened and the onion is translucent.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Stir occasionally until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
  4. Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat if necessary. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
Assemble the Sandwiches
  1. Preheat your toaster oven or grill to medium heat.
  2. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. Spread butter on the cut sides of the rolls.
  3. Place the rolls butter-side down on the grill or in the toaster oven. Toast for about 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Once toasted, fill each roll generously with the beef mixture. Top with slices of provolone cheese.
  5. Return the filled sandwiches to the grill or toaster oven for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve
  1. Remove the sandwiches from the heat and let them cool for a minute. Serve hot with your favorite sides, such as fries or a salad.
